End of an era: India 2011 World Cup Hero Retired from International cricket & IPL
Yuvraj Singh said he was scared of trying his hand at any other sport because he was petrified of his father Yograj Singh who himself played for India. I love the sport but I also hate the sport. I love the sport because it has given everything to me. I hate it because the game has been very tough on me mentally, Yuvraj Singh said in a video played just before the announcement.
The video traced Yuvraj Singh’s journey and how his father trained him at their ancestral home. His childhood was about training, gym and practice. He said his father Yograj was strict and stern and Yuvraj had to make plenty of sacrifices growing up.
I was not used to being in the sun or run. I was 10 and I was made to run like 16-year-olds. If I could not train like the older boys, I was told to go home, Yuvraj said.
Yograj said he saw Garfield Sobers and Viv Richards in his son. If I let Yuvi play tennis, he would excel in that too, he said.
Yuvraj Singh also spoke about his battle against cancer and said he was determined to never give up.
Yuvraj Singh announced his decision to retire from international cricket in a press conference in Mumbai. He made his India debut back in 2000 in the ICC Knockout Trophy in Kenya and made an immediate impact when he hit an 80-ball 84 against Australia.
Yuvraj followed that up with a crisp 41 against South Africa as India reached the final.
In the years to come, Yuvraj Singh would go on to become one of the world’s most influential cricketers in the shorter formats. He played a gem of a knock against Pakistan in the 2003 World Cup and was the backbone of India’s sensational triumph in the ICC World T20 in 2007 in South Africa.,
. Yuvraj Singh’s crowning glory came in 2011 when he scored 362 runs and took 15 wickets to help India win the World Cup.
India vs Australia probable XI
India and Australia will square off in a blockbuster clash at the World Cup 2019 on Sunday. The match at the Oval will be the 12th World Cup game between the two giants of world cricket with Australia holding an 8-3 advantage over India in head-to-head encounters in the World Cup.
All eyes will be on former skipper MS Dhoni with the controversy surrounding his wicketkeeping gloves hogging all the limelight before the high-profile clash in London. Dhoni has been asked by the ICC to get rid of the regimental dagger insignia of the Indian Para Special Forces on his gloves. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote to the ICC seeking permission to keep the symbol on Dhoni’s gloves but their request was turned down by cricket’s governing body. Coming to the match, India are heading into the game as the favourites against a strong Australian side led by Aaron Finch. The Aussies will be playing their third game after defeating Afghanistan and West Indies in their first two encounters while India outclassed South Africa in their tournament opener.
